This one’s for you, ama.

“Daughter, from whom did you inherit so much creativity? You should have dedicated yourself to this”. These are the words that my ama (my mother) repeated to me every time I showed her one of my “creations”, whether it was a visual thinking, one of my drawings (which some people affectionately call “dibujines”), one of my robots or my sustainable wooden “little houses” (she still has in her house two of the creations with which I “let myself go” the most).

I have been almost two months without posting anything on the blog (I apologize, especially to the entrepreneurs I have met lately and who deserve a space in this blog). The reason is that my mom died this past June 26th, after being hospitalized on May 27th for a “supposed” pneumonia, which would end up becoming “her lungs can’t take it”. She is on my mind all the time, I miss her terribly, and, honestly, I would prefer her to be here with me, enjoying the summer as we had been doing for 17 years. Unfortunately, that is not possible, it is the only thing that is impossible, although as I repeat day after day “nothing is impossible”, except this situation.

So, today, I have gathered my courage and I am writing this post for you, ama, because you deserve it as much as anyone else. It’s for you, amatxu!

Today, once again, I confirm that creativity and innovation are the best inheritance that my ama could have left me. Creativity because “she saw a use for everything” and innovation because she put into action the most varied and original “gadgets” and fantastic paintings, more than what she valued, and that we have the good fortune to keep them for ourselves.

Ama lived by and for others, always, doing things for others, working for others, and taking steps for others, because that’s what she had to do from a very young age and because very few people were able to see her great qualities and competencies, which she did not hide, but they were not recognized as and when it was necessary. Perhaps that led her to not believe that SHE also deserved the help, compliments, recognition, praise, or thanks that the vast majority of people receive or should receive for a job well done, the “things” we do for others, or the details we have without the need to do so. Oh, and because working in a team is very positive.

She was an entrepreneur because of her perseverant and responsible character that always accompanied her (how hard it is for me to correct and write in the past tense), committed to her work and tireless worker (until her legs, hands, and lungs almost prevented her from walking and painting), supportive of others to the fullest, sustainable and courageous (she could not even imagine how much).

This is just part of how she was ama, Mary, Mary Karmen, or Arruti, as she liked to be recognized.

Ama, as I said, you had your space in this blog saved, how many times did I tell you.

I will continue dreaming, being passionate, and showing what I am worth as you taught me. Thank you, amatxu, for giving me life and giving me some last years with you of peace, tranquility, serenity, understanding and so much love and affection. Maite zaitut.

Enjoy the summer.
