TEDxUDeusto (English)

This last Friday, 18th of March 2022, I was at the Sociedad Filarmónica of Bilbao participating, this time as an active listener and learning everything I can, at the new TEDxUDeusto.

If you don’t know what TEDx is, keep reading because I’ll tell you.

From TED, with the goal of spreading ideas that are worth it, a few years ago the event called TEDx was created, local and self-organized events that put people together to share a unique experience very similar to the TED ones. There, they share new ideas or inventions that surprise us and, sometimes, challenge already “established” beliefs and perspectives. Between approximately 5 and 18 minutes, the speakers make us focus on that idea or invention which many times leaves us mesmerized.

TED is a non-profit organization dedicated to “ideas worth sharing”, often as short talks performed by great thinkers and entrepreneurs.

The TEDx I want to talk to you about which was presented on Friday the 18th is TEDxUDeusto, the only TEDx in Biscay, by the way. In particular, it’s an event organized in an independent way by the students of the University of Deusto, and until this day, they have done a great job, so great that we have to take off our hats and congratulate them.

As well as at the TED events, at the TEDxUDeusto both the speakers (thoughtful, proactive, and inspiring people) and the artists who take part encourage us to think, get emotional, connect and debate with other people, to think about current and hot topics, to share disruptive ideas… and all of that with the goal of generating positive changes in society.

That is possible thanks to Aitor, Ander, Gabriel, Borja I and II, Estíbaliz, Aitor, Aitana, Sofía, Lucía, Jon Ander, Sonsoles, Leire, Eneko, Elisa, Ane, Beatriz, Iñigo, Eva, Jon and Pelayo, the team of the TEDxUDeusto organizers, students of different faculties, grades and ages who work in different departments (Production, Communication and Marketing, Sponsors, Speakers, Entertainment and Legal). Each of those departments is led by the lead organizers, who make possible the respect towards the brand and that the TED spirit stays intact, as well as the enthusiasm, the motivation, and the compromise of each organizer. Who are those organizers? Enter this link and take a look at their level and values.

Passion, illusion, creativity, compromise, responsibility, perfectionism, curiosity, willingness to learn, resolution capacity, ambition, honesty, social skills, innovation, demand, non-conformism, happiness, openness, energy, enthusiasm, perseverance, work, organization, discipline, proactivity, and response and sacrifice capacity are just a few of the values the team of organizers share.

Oh, and the speakers of the new edition were Ana Freire (Engineer and PhD. in IT), Miguel Angel Tobías (film producer), Jose Ignacio Goirigolzarri (president of Caixabank), Aritz Aranburu (professional surfer), Alfonso Medela (founder of Legi.health) and Miren Aguirre (European Commission worker). They are now TED talkers like Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman. It was an honor to listen to them and get emotional with them.

If you want more information, you just have to enter:

If you also support values such as respect for a plurality of ideas, commitment to change, and collaboration, I hope to see you at the next TEDxUDeusto.
