H4C3R (English version)

I wish you a good summer with a news like the one I share with you today. Not only because behind it is a friend and colleague like Garbiñe Henry, director of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit at the University of Deusto (UD) and her team, but also because I know that to reach this “result” there is a lot of effort and many hours of thinking, readjusting and defending.

I’ll tell you quickly, I’m sure that, although today’s post is very interesting, many people are more aware of the hours you have left for your much-needed vacation than of what I’m telling you today. So, let’s get to the point.

This post is contextualized in the new Deusto 2022 Strategic Plan of the University of Deusto, whose motto is

“people and institutions that together transform the world to make it more just, more humane and more sustainable”.

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit wants to train people in an integral way (they have been doing it for years), people who transform themselves in order to transform. To this end, the Unit has designed the Deusto Model of Entrepreneurship (H4C3R), which has the following purpose  people who transform themselves to transfor:

To support people throughout their lives, promoting an entrepreneurial and innovative culture inside and outside the University, so that they become agents of economic and social transformation, in cooperation with the rest of the ecosystem; in short, people who transform themselves in order to transform.

4 are the objectives and priority lines of action that have been set and which can be summarised as follows:

  1. To promote the entrepreneurial culture by carrying out awareness-raising, communication and dissemination tasks.
  2. To develop the entrepreneurial and innovative skills that every entrepreneur (transforming agent) needs.
  3. To promote and accompany the implementation of entrepreneurial projects in the spaces that the UD has.
  4. To position the UD in the entrepreneurial ecosystem through networking, cooperation, internationalization or the co-creation of projects.

It’s the final countdown

Yes, we have almost reached the end of the “EIPTE” (Entrepreneurship in Initial Primary Teacher Education) project (pronounced in very different ways) and here we are, oddly enough, wanting to do more.

It’s been almost three years (which will be complete by next July) and during those years we worked, fun, laughed (even cried), but we have also proven that:

  • entrepreneurship education is not just a dream,
  • we are worth more than we think,
  • we can also be teacherpreneurs (why not?),
  • before making our dreams come true, we have to set some goals,
  • we like our profession,
  • before being a team, we have to be a group,
  • it’s very difficult, but also possible, to work among professionals from countries of different rhythms and level of commitment; ultimately,
  • many other things, such as knowledge, abilities and, to sum up, competences we acquired, developed, and improved during this time.

Honestly, that’s what I thought we could do (and win) with this project.

A project created, as you already know, from international interaction and from good work and trust placed on people.

Well, next week, on Wednesday the 27th of May, will be the time to let everyone know what we’ve been doing these three years. I want to invite you personally to the event that, as it couldn’t be in any other way, will be online. This link is where you’d have to register to be able to enjoy this event with us. As always in this type of acts, there will be a quick opening, a presentation of the results (a little less quick, but hopefully not boring) of the project, a presentation of a resource made by two former students (teacherpreneurs, of course) of the Primary Education degree (one of those also EIPTE participant), and a round table with participants of the program. All of that in less than two hours (10:00 – 12:00 approximately), with a small break where we will present a summary video of our experience. Oh, and if you can’t, you don’t have to be there for the whole event, but we will appreciate it if you do.

By the way, I also take this opportunity to tell you that last Thursday, the 21st of May,  I was invited to the Talento Juntos program to do an interview on their Instagram @talentojuntos. I want to thank my dear friend Diego Martos for this invitation. I met him thanks to entrepreneurship almost a decade ago and I haven’t seen in too long (but the distance doesn’t make us forget each other). Creativity and Innovation Day

In 2018, the UN named the 21st of April the World Creativity and Innovation Day in order to promote multidisciplinary creative thinking to help us achieve the sustainable future we have to get to.

I confess that I’m lucky (as I say, I have good luck), because I work in “something” I’m passionate about (anyone who knows me knows that). Part of my working time I work with the team of the Educational Innovation Unit of the University of Deusto. We work a lot, yes, but with a privileged atmosphere. Besides, we do it in the name of innovation, what else can we ask for?

The truth is that today I thought about them (if not, I was sure that Marta Roldán was going to remind me, as she has done). But I also remembered the importance of being an innovative person these days.

As you know, I work in the educational area, and today I thought it was relevant to think especially about the innovative and entrepreneurial teachers or teacherpreneurs, as I like to call them.

So, today, the creativity and innovation day, and because I feel like it, I want to dedicate this post to teachers and students. I invite you to watch a video of Joe Ruhl (awarded with different awards in the educational area). In it, he speaks about passion, choice, innovation, inspiration, motivation, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, creativity, listening, team, people, affection, care, 21st Century competencies, experience, change and intention. Oh, but, especially, thinking about the training of future students. Today, my clapping goes to them (teachers and students).

Contributing to the social transformation from social entrepreneurship

On Wednesday the 21st of June, my first doctoral student (already a PhD) Nerea Sáenz defended the thesis entitled: La formación en emprendimiento social en la educación superior: competencias, metodologías de enseñanza-aprendizaje e instrumentos de evaluación. Estudio de casos en dos universidades europeas. (Training in social entrepreneurship in higher education: competencies, teaching and learning methodologies and assessment tools. Study of the cases in two European universities).
