The 50 magnificent

First of all, happy new year 2021 to everyone who is reading this post and to those who don’t, of course. Especially, thank you for being there one more year and for supporting this project about entrepreneurship and E.P. Today I start the year by writing about a woman, because I think it’s the right thing to do and because, honestly, I feel like it and I want to. This is another E.P. who deserves this post. I encourage you to know more about María Jesús Pérez Ladrón.

Graduated in Fine Arts and specialized in design by the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), MJesús defines herself as a designer (it couldn’t be in any other way). For more than 30 years, her working tools have been graphic design, website design and photography. After working at different companies, right now she is working at LAPLANET, a company where she’s a founding partner. Her experience in the development of graphic projects and in the organization of creative teams has led her to, among others, launching a project where photography, along with women, becomes the great protagonist. Today I want to talk about Somos más de 50, (We are more than 50), a project where MJesús has been working on for more than 2 years because photography for her:

Somos más de 50 has its origin in MJesús’s participation at the ANDREkintzailea programme, which is celebrated every year and it’s directed towards female entrepreneurs and businesswomen. After being on that programme, MJesús stood by her idea of:

It’s more than reflecting images, it’s a different way of speaking, a form of expression to communicate concepts and to show something more than what’s appreciated to the naked eye. I like to enhance what’s daily by giving it another dimension and specially taking pictures of people trying to show their essence“.

Somos más de 50 has its origin in MJesús’s participation at the ANDREkintzailea programme, which is celebrated every year and it’s directed towards female entrepreneurs and businesswomen. After being on that programme, MJesús stood by her idea of:

besides other circumstances, one of the invisible obstacles for the expectations of women being our image in society, which determines, largely, the image we have of ourselves, although sometimes we aren’t aware of it”.

But also, because according to MJesús, the 50s can be a vital moment to live intensely, a liberation, a great opportunity to rediscover ourselves, a moment to take advantage of every instant with experience, maturity, and self-assurance, and, ultimately, a moment where we look for feeling motivated and want to have the feeling of what we’re doing being worthy.

The idea is to take 50 pictures of 50 women, accompanied by a short description about each of them and their job, that will be published on the internet and will be shared on different sites (take a look and see the group of women). It has a triple goal:

  • Inspiring and being a reference to other women, young people, and society in general.
  • Empowering women, placing value on them and highlighting their own strengths.
  • Creating synergies and having fun.

MJesús, by using the portraits, also wants us to see ourselves from a different and positive point of view, to be surprised by it and then to create a new vision of 50-year-old women.

If you’re interested in the project and you are or know a woman who’s more than 50, you just have to enter this link or get in touch with MJesús on any of her social media or her phone number:

Once again, thank you, MJesús, for inviting me to this project, but, especially, for knowing you a bit more.

I hope you’ve had a good start of the year, that the pandemic is giving you the least harm possible, and I hope you keep taking care of yourselves and of the people that surround you. We can’t forget that the improvement of this situation depends, greatly, on every single one of us.
